Jonathan Peacock is the Newest Intern for Source27

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, May 31st, 2013— Jonathan Peacock is the newest addition to the Source27 team, as a summer intern. Jonathan is an upcoming graduate from the University of West Florida who is majoring in advertising. During his three-month internship, he will focus primarily on copywriting. Currently, Jonathan holds a 3.5 GPA, and is on track to graduate with honors.

“I am very enthusiastic about having Jonathan be on our team this summer. Although graphic design was my major it plays only a small role in my career as being a brander for local companies. With the addition of Jonathan together we’ll focus on how copywriting plays a role in advertising and branding” says Angela Vaughn, Source27 Owner & Creative Director.

Responsive Website Design Destin

Responsive website design may seem something of a misnomer, initially. The word “responsive” conjures up a familiar back-and-forth communication style. However, responsive websites are simply websites designed which respond to the device the user is viewing them on — i.e. they change format depending on the situation.

This concept is still relatively new; in 2010 a man named Ethan Marcotte, a designer and developer, proposed the concept. He based the concept on the idea of three things: 1) Fluid Widths, 2) Flexible Margins, and 3) Media Queries. Essentially, manipulating these three things forces responsive websites to act outside the lines of traditional fixed spaces in which content must fit in.

In the still-budding digital age, the concept of responsive websites is revolutionary; it creates an agreeable aesthetic that the viewer can use to browse the internet. In the global internet market, conservative estimates contend that mobile devices account for 20% of all internet access. Clearly responsive websites were a necessary invention with the innumerable amount of devices people use to access the internet these days.

Design Sprout Wanted: Graphic Design Internship

Source27 is looking for a Design Sprout this semester. What is a Design Sprout you may ask? We are looking for an intern that wants to work on real projects for real clients to help build their professional portfolio as they prepare to finish their degrees. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • • Laying Out Website Designs
  • • Writing Coding Specs for Design Team to Relay to Development Team Functionality Requirements & Brand Guidelines
  • • Making Website Updates to Existing & Testing Websites, No Coding Required
  • • Bring Ideas to Brainstorming Sessions for New Clients & Projects
  • • Designing Graphical Social Media Posts
  • • Designing Facebook Profile Graphics
  • • Logo Designs & Identity Sheets for Branding Standards
  • • Designing & Setting Up MailChimp Campaigns
  • • Onsite Client Product Photography & Image Editing

Design Sprout will learn to manage and collaborate on projects in a creative team environment by working directly with the Creative Director, writers, and graphic designers— as well as further develop skills in Adobe Creative Suite while also learning the fundamentals of website design. Intern will get the opportunity to see projects from contract signing to full implementation depending on length of their internship and client project.

The student will also be asked to participate in AAF Emerald Coast events on behalf of Source27 while gaining an extensive network of other marketing and advertising professionals in the area. Source27 will provide membership dues for length of internship along with any required fees to attend club events while representing Source27.

Source27 has been approved for a student intern from Northwest Florida State College as well as University of West Florida. Northwest Florida State College students should contact Professor Ben Gillham and University of West Florida Students should contact Eillen Perrigo for full details if interested in being the Source27 Design Sprout this semester.

This is an unpaid internship.

 

Tshirt Graphic Design: Habitat for Humanity Walton County

Have you seen the TShirts we designed for Habitat for Humanity Walton County’s volunteers? They were a huge hit at their unveiling at the 2012 Habitrot at Sandestin. These volunteer tshirts are great visually because of the bright Pantone® green color chosen for them they stand out in a crowd, making finding a volunteer very easy! Habitat plans to use the new Tshirt design for all of their upcoming event and even on the jobs sites making volunteers very visible on the construction site.

Over the weekend Source27 launched a new website design for Southern States Bank in Birmingham Alabama, www.southernstatesbank.net. The Community bank has been growing tremendously since opening their doors in August 2007, now with 4 office locations. With their growth and adding to their family of products and services they needed their website to do the same as well. Source27 redesigned the website for the bank from our headquarters in Destin, Florida via conference calls and emails. Graphic design can be done from just about anywhere for anyone.

Today’s quote brings me to the subject of overall branding. Your brand is not just your logo, the packaging for your product or service, your website design, your glossy brochures— it is a cumulation of all text, visual graphics, and behaviors associated with your brand. Your customer service, your policies, your giving back to your local communities, your voice of employees on social media, they are all part of your brand and have influence on your bottom line. Graphic Design Poster Beliefs verses Behavior

Today’s inspiration is by anonymous, but speaks huge volumes. “Beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behavior does.” Words to live by… it really doesn’t matter what you believe unless your behavior matches or says something differently. This goes back to the old saying “actions speak louder than words”.

Even design can be applied can be applied to today’s inspiration. In school for my Graphic Design degree we were all give a set of basic design rules to always follow to ensure there was a method behind our madness rather than random actions. We were given a set of beliefs that were developed by our professors that were taught to us and if we applied these beliefs within our design it set us up to be better designers.
